About

Dorchester County born and bred Sam Richardson is running for Sheriff in his home county.

Sam has the experience, the training, and the temperament to the sheriff’s department as the top law enforcement official in the county.

A retired Lt. Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, Sam hails from the county line road area of Dorchester County. He is a graduate of Summerville High School, where he excelled on the football field for the legendary John McKissick.

After high school, Sam played football at Western Carolina University and graduated from South Carolina State University.
As a law enforcement professional, Sam has been through the ranks. He has served at various positions in the Sheriff’s office, from lieutenant, detective, and rising to the Chief Deputy, where he is second in command.

He has served under four different sheriff's. Additionally, he has experience as the chief investigator for the First Circuit Solicitor’s office, the region’s chief prosecutor, giving him a wide scope of experience and knowledge.

Sam has been active in the Dorchester County Republican Party having served in leadership roles in his precinct.

Sam is married to Tera Richardson and has two daughters and a son. Tera and Sam live in the Oakbrook area of Summerville.
